MHE: Fall 2015 Implementation Virtual Summit

August 14, 2015 @ 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

I will be delivering two presentations on this date:

Keynote: Adaptive Learning and the Evolution of a Species, Dr. Michael Windelspecht – Appalachian State University

The adaptive learning revolution is not only altering the educational landscape at the personal and classroom levels, it also has the power to fundamentally change the way that our species functions. For the first time in our history, we have the ability to deliver content to every individual on the planet, assess their understanding, and deliver specific learning resources to address knowledge deficiencies. These changes will upset the educational equilibrium that has existed for hundreds of years, and usher in a new era of evolution for our species.

Getting Inside the Minds of Our Students: Using SmartBook Reports, Dr. Michael Windelspecht – Appalachian State University

One of the basic facts of education is that students don’t know what they don’t know. Yet, as instructors, we need to develop learning resources that target their specific learning deficiencies. Adaptive learning platforms, such as SmartBook, are not only allowing personalization of the learning process, but providing the data needed by instructors to construct flipped and hybrid classes. This session will explore how the reports from SmartBook are being utilized in a large lecture general education science course.
